Influenza vaccination subsidies

As part of its health activities, the Health Insurance Society provides subsidies for influenza vaccinations.

Eligible persons Insured persons (members) and dependents (family members)
Vaccination period Roughly October to December
  • * Specific dates will be announced in Better Health (Health Insurance News) and elsewhere.
Subsidy amount Actual cost up to 5,000 yen/vaccination
Number of vaccinations covered
  • 13 or older: one vaccination
  • Below 13: up to two vaccinations
Method
  • Group vaccinations (provided by your employer at some establishments)
  • *The employer will announce detailed information concerning group vaccinations.
  • Individual vaccinations (obtained by visiting hospital or other facility on your own)
  • * Vaccinations conducted by municipal governments are also included in individual vaccinations.
Applying for the vaccination subsidy
  • Group vaccinations: No procedures required
  • Individual vaccinations: Information on applying for the subsidy will be announced in Better Health (Health Insurance News) and elsewhere.
  • *You must attach a receipt when applying.
Payment method
  • The subsidy will be paid via remittance into the account to which each individual’s salary is paid.
  • * For Voluntarily and Continuously Insured Persons, the subsidy will be paid via remittance into each individual’s bank account.
Notes
  • Vaccinations received overseas are not eligible for the subsidy.
  • Subsidies do not cover vaccines not approved for use in Japan, even if such a vaccine is administered in Japan.
