My parents live with me. (They are covered by National Health Insurance.) Can I name them as my dependents instead?

You cannot name them as dependents simply so they can avoid paying National Health Insurance premiums (tax). To be certified as dependents, they must actually depend on the insured person for their living. If they have a source of income such as pension benefits, the first obligation of dependency is between your parents themselves. Screening for certification as dependents will be done by checking their annual income.
Even if the income of one or both of the insured person’s parents is less than the maximum annual income amount, if their total income is at or above a certain amount, they cannot be named as dependents, even if the insured person assists them with their living expenses.
Contact the Health Insurance Society for details.
