What are the "deluxe rooms" that entail surcharges?
Many hospital rooms may qualify "deluxe," and thus entail a surcharge that you must pay. Such rooms must meet the conditions set forth below. Note that these rooms are not limited to singles and doubles; three-person and four-person rooms may also be included in this category.
1. The number of beds in the room is four or less.
2. The room provides a space of 6.4 square meters or more per occupant.
3. The room is equipped with facilities that make each bed a private space.
4. The room is equipped with facilities for personal use such as chests, desks, chairs, and lights.
Newly constructed rooms, sunny rooms, and private rooms, created by dividing a large room with plywood, do not qualify as "deluxe rooms." Hospitals will collect surcharges from an inpatient based on the patient's decision to occupy a "special-treatment" room (i.e., a room equipped with a more expensive bed or a "deluxe room").
