If you become sick or are injured due to the actions of another party

You can undergo treatment covered by health insurance for sickness or injury attributable to the actions of another party, as in the case of a traffic accident. However, in such cases, you must submit the Notification of Injury or Sickness due to a Third-party Act as soon as possible.

If you have been in a traffic accident

Required documents:
  • Notification of Injury or Sickness due to a Third-party Act
  • Written Pledge
  • Notice of Completion of Treatment
  • Certificate of the Automobile Accident (original)
  • Application Form for Exemption from Refunding of Health Insurance Benefits
  • Interim Report on Injury or Sickness due to a Third-party Act
  • Certificate of the Automobile Accident, etc.
Deadline: As soon as possible
Applies to: Insured persons or dependents using health insurance to treat injuries or other sickness caused by traffic accidents
Address inquiries to: Health Insurance Society
Notes:
  • While you may use health insurance for treatment when you become sick or are injured due to the actions of another party—for example, when you are involved in a traffic accident—the third party in principle should pay the cost of such treatment. For this reason, the Health Insurance Society will pay medical care costs up front on a temporary basis.
  • Accordingly, under law, the Society will obtain the right to demand compensation for damages from the other party for the amount of medical care costs paid using health insurance, through subrogation. For this reason, be careful to avoid reaching a settlement with the other party concerning medical care costs without the permission of the Society.
  • If you or the counterparty has voluntary insurance associated with a settlement agency service, you can receive support from the responsible casualty insurance company for preparing and submitting documents, including the Notification of Injury or Sickness due to a Third-party Act and the Accident Report. Please check with the insurer with whom you contracted your policy for more information.
  • ** This support is available only for traffic accidents away from the job for which you used health insurance.
To apply, provide the necessary information on the above documents, attach the documents to attach, and submit to the Health Insurance Society if you are a Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited employee. If you are not a Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited employee, submit to the section at your company responsible for health insurance administration.

If you have been in a traffic accident due to your own negligence

When using health insurance for examination or treatment for injuries attributable to an accident due to and involving the driver and/or owner and free of the involvement of any other party, submit the notice below to the Health Insurance Society.
